Why the Change is Happening

FAQs

Do I need to own the home to get a rebate?

No. If you’re impacted by the Solstice shutdown, rental providers may apply too.

What if my existing water heater is new (or less than 3 or 5 years old)?

The age requirements have been lifted for impacted Solstice customers—you can still apply for the hot water systems rebate even if the current unit is fairly new.

Rebates & Financial Support

Because of the Solstice program, there are enhanced incentives to make installing electric systems more affordable:

  • Eligible households can access rebates and discounts under the Solar Homes Program and Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) for solar, energy-efficient hot water, and electric heating & cooling.
  • For impacted Solstice customers:
    • The hot water rebate (up to ~$1,400) is available no matter how old your current system is. The minimum-age requirement has been temporarily removed.
    • Rental providers in affected areas can also apply.
    • Additional top-ups for homes or hot water systems that do not meet certain VEU program criteria.
